Chapter 6: Summary
Stradlater arrives late that night and asks Holden if he read the

composition .
After Stradlater reads the composition , he gets upset because
its about a baseball mitt and tells Holden he does not do anything
right.
Holden tears up the composition and starts smoking in the room
to purposely annoy Stradlater.
Holden asks Stradlater about his date with Jane and stradlater
simply says that they spent most of the time in Ed Bankys car.
Holden asks him if he gave her the time (had sex with her)
Stradlater responds by saying it is a professional secret.
Holden is furious by this, and decides to punch him, and
Stradlater fights him back.
Stradlater wins the fight and prepares to go out, telling Holden to
clean himself up, since he is all bloody.
Although Holden claims to be a pacifist he kind of liked to see
blood on his face. Made him look tough

Chapter 7: Summary
Holden goes to Ackleys room.
Ackley tells him that he is still bleeding and should put something

on his wounds.
Holden asks him if he can spend the night with him. However,
Ackley says he cant give permission for that since its Elys bed.
Holden is still thinking about Stradlater having sex with Jane. He
knows how easy Stradlater seduces girls.
Holden asks Ackley about what the routine is to join a Monastery.
( a place where monks live together under religious vows)
He does not want to be around when his parents first get Mr.
Thurmers letter about him getting expelled.
Feeling really alone, Holden decides he will leave Pencey and go
to New York City.
Before leaving, he puts on his red hunting hat and shouts out
"Sleep tight, ya morons.
However, in the end we can see how sad he really is. He admits,
"I was sort of crying, I dont know why."
