Lec 2 - Haematopoiesis

The document discusses haemopoiesis, the process of blood cell formation, and the sites where it occurs throughout fetal development and adulthood. In fetuses, haemopoiesis begins in the wall of the yolk sac and later occurs in the liver and spleen. By the fifth to ninth month of fetal development, the primary site shifts to the bone marrow, where it remains for the rest of one's life. The bone marrow contains haemopoietic stem cells that can differentiate into various blood cell types and is made up of trabecular and vascular components that support this process.

Learning Outcomes

In the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

1. Describe the process of haemopoiesis.

2. Identify the haemopoiesis site in fetus, infants, and
adults.
3. Describe the structure and functions of Bone
Marrow.
