ICT Introduction

This document provides an introduction to information and communication technology (ICT). It discusses the objectives of understanding computers and computer systems, the importance of information for organizations, and applying ICT as a work tool. It defines a computer as an electronic device that uses binary numbers and can perform input, processing, and output functions. A computer system is made up of hardware and software components, including a processor, memory, and instructions. Programming languages allow humans to write instructions for computers in a machine-understandable format. Mathematical models can represent real-world problems for computers to analyze. Feedback on the ICT module is requested.

What is Computer?
Early computers are huge in size, because large amount of electronic
bulbs are used
By using 2 bulbs (22=4 signals/conditions) can be represented in
computer, such as 00,01,10,11. If we want to understand million
of conditions to a computer, we have to use thousand of electric
bulbs.
2 bulbs 22=4 signals 3 bulbs 23=8 signals
00 A 0,0,0 A
01 B 0,0,1 B
10 C 0,1,0 C
11 D 0,1,1 D
1,0,0 E
1,0,1 F
1,1,0 G
1,1,1 H
Early Day of Computer

Huge in Size(with many electric bulbs)

Computer
is an electronic device , so it can only understand
two condition (ON, OFF) ,
i.e., Computers use Binary Number System (0,1)
for their works.
human use Decimal Number System (0,1,2,......,9)
for their works.
Computer as a System
Computer System is a collection of HW and SW components.
