When something is abnormal the baby is usually are taken to the
newborn intensive care unit to either be put on oxygen or put in an
isolate to regulate what ever is abnormal and if unable to do so,
they will then be transferred to NICU.
Current Event
23 infants infected at CHOP after eye exams with
contaminated equipment.
• August 30, 2018 at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
• 23 infants contracted viral eye infection due to lack of clean equipment
and failure to wear gloves.
• The infection consisted of adenovirus and was most likely transmitted by
the instrument called ophthalmoscope.

• Not only did infants get this infection, but 6 of the staff and 3 of the parents
contracted the infection as well.
• This lead to 2 out of the 23 died with the theory of the infection being the
cause and 5 developing pneumonia.
Product
My product is a tri-fold board showing
what a newborn assessment is and why
it is done, and what is looked for. My
main goal for my product was to
resemble an information board a new
mom might see, so they know exactly
what the exam consist of.
