By 1849, The Indian Peninsular Railway took the work.
By December 1851, the first Steam Loco was invented.
By 1946 all 42 rail systems taken over by govt. to make a
single nationalized network
World’s largest public sector enterprise with 1.5 million
employees.
Indian Railways is serving more than 100 crore people
continuously since April16,1853 when the first train was run
in India under the British rule between Mumbai and Thane.

NORTHERN RAILWAY
The Northern Railways is one of the 16 zones of the Indian
Railways.
The railway zone was created on 14 April 1952
Its headquarters is in Delhi at New Delhi Railway Station.
Northern Railways is one of nine old zones of Indian Railways
and also the biggest in terms of network having 6807 kilometre
route.
It covers the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana,
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and the Union
territories of Delhi and Chandigarh.
HISTORY OF LOCOMOTIVE WORKSHOP,
CHARBAGH
The locomotive workshop at Charbagh, Lucknow, was
established in the year 1867 under Oudh & Rohilkhand
Railways for overhauling of steam locomotives. After
independence this workshop came under Northern Railway.
The activities in course of time have changed from POH of
steam locomotives to now POH/ IOH/ of Diesel locomotives
(WDM2B, WDM2A, WDM2C,WDP1 , WDP2, WDP3,
WDG2, WDM3 & WDG3), Electric locomotives (WAM4,
WAG5, & WAG7), DMUs.

What Is GOVERNOR?
A device used to measure and regulate the speed of an
engine.
Woodward governor is commonly used on board .
A hydraulic amplifier amplifies the governor’s signal to the
fuel pump.
The hydraulic pressure for the amplifier is delivered by the
camshaft lubricating oil system.
The microcontroller based governor consists of a controlunit
mounted in the drive cab and an actuator unit mounted on
the engine.
How it looks like…..
1. FUNCTION
To maintain the engine speed at the desire value by
controlling the fuel injection.
At the time of low pressure of lubrication oil, it stops the engine.
It controls the main generator to protect against overload and under
load.
At the time of starting, lubrication oil pressure of low, so it prevents the
engine from stopping upto 40sec.
It shuts downs the engine when water level is low.
