TYPES OF SENTENCES ACCORDING TO USE
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Classify sentences according to their uses.
2. Construct declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences.
3. Read sentences correctly and clearly with expressions.
4. Show teamwork and cooperation through participating in a group activity.
GROUP ACT IVIT Y
The students will be divided in to four; each group will be given pieces of paper with words
written on them. They will be asked to arrange the words in order to make a sentence.
1. Philippines is rich in natural resources.
2. When did you go visit the white island?
3. Please give the certificate.
4. I can’t believe it! We won!
4 TYPES OF SENTENCES
Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative, and Exclamatory.
Declarative
A declarative sentence is a sentence that makes a statement. in other words, it declares
something.
This kind of sentence is used to share information – for instance, stating your point of view or a
fact.
Examples :
There are five million people at risk.
London is the capital of England.
I am no wine connoisseur, but I know what I like.
She asked whether I liked her dress.
Interrogative
Asks a direct question and is punctuated at the end with a question mark.
Interrogative sentences allow you to gather information and clear up confusion as well as
engage in interesting conversations with others.
Examples:
Who is the best shortstop in the Major Leagues?
To whom shall I give the test results?
Why did Suzie leave so late?
Imperative
are used to issue a command or instruction, make a request, or offer advice.
usually end’s with a period but can occasionally end with an exclamation point. These
sentences are sometimes referred to as directives because they provide direction to whoever is
being addressed.
Examples :
Pass the salt.
Move out of my way!
Shut the front door.
Find my leather jacket.
Be there at five.
Exclamatory
Are those reactions or statements made out of anxiety, fear, emotions (happiness or sorrow).
They can be expressed dramatically with facial expressions and gesticulations, depending on
the kind of situation or the individual's level to accommodate those circumstances stated above.
In written form, it is denoted by the use of the Exclamation Symbol (!)

Oh! I forgot about the meeting.
Ouch! My leg hurts.
We're are going to the Cinemas, Yippee!

Declarative: 1. bts is a internationally acclaimed

Interrogative : 2.Are they famous ?
Imperative : 3. could you please sign me to their
fans club?
Exclamatory : 4. “ Omg! Im watching bts live!”
Declarative: 1.They are asking for directions.
Interrogative : 2.Are they lost?
Imperative : 3. could you please tell us how to get
there?
Exclamatory : 4. “Help! We are lost!”
Declarative: 1. the team won the tournament.
Interrogative : 2.did they win the contest ?
Imperative : 3. let’s clap our hands for the winning
team!
Exclamatory : 4. “ hurray! My favorite team won!!”
Declarative: 1. she reach the mountain top.
Interrogative : 2.did she hike alone ?
Imperative : 3. please take me to the mountain top.
Exclamatory : 4. “atlast! I reached the top!”
Group Activity: Make a short presentation depicting different
situations. Make sure to use all types of sentences.
◦ Group 1: You and your friends are in a concert.
◦ Group 2: You are lost when you meet a group of friends having fun
on the road.
◦ Group 3: A famous actress visited your village.
◦ Group 4: Your teacher informed you about your failing marks.
