The document discusses calculating percentile rank. Percentile rank is defined as the proportion of scores in a distribution that are greater than or equal to a specific score. The formula uses the cumulative frequency of scores below the critical value, the frequency of the class interval containing the score, the total number of scores, and the score to determine what percentage of scores are greater than or equal to it. An example is provided to demonstrate calculating the percentile rank of a score of 38 using a provided data set.

Good to see Hi, Lily!

you, Meliza. What

brought
you here?
I’ve been to Bloom
and she refer me Okay, what
to you, she said was it all
that you might about?
have the answer.
Ohh its
that it?
About percentile
rank.
Well, Percentile rank is defined
as the proportion of scores in a
distribution that a specific score
is greater than or equal to.

The formula of percentile Rank

is.
where:
cf p = cumulative frequency of all the
PPR = percentile
values below therank, the
critical answer will be
value
a percentage
fp = frequency of the PPR class
LB = lower boundary of the kth
i = size of the class interval
percentile
P= raw score or value for which one wants
N = total frequency
to find a percentile rank.
For example. Calculate how many percent
of the scores are greater than the
cumulative frequency of 38.
Class Frequency Lower Less
Interval f Boundari than
Scores es (LB) CF
(<cf)
46 – 50 4 45.5 50
41 – 45 8 40.5 46
36 – 40 11 35.5 38
31 – 35 9 30.5 27
26 – 30 12 25.5 18
21 – 25 6 20.5 6
Now before we calculate lets first identify
the given. Since 40 is within 36-40, that will
be our basis.
Class Interval Frequency Lower Less than CF
Scores f Boundaries (<cf)
(LB)
46 – 50 4 45.5 50
41 – 45 8 40.5 46
36 – 40 11 35.5 38
31 – 35 9 30.5 27
26 – 30 12 25.5 18
21 – 25 6 20.5 6
i= 5 N= 50

Where:
LB = 35.5 Cf p= 27 N=50
fp = 11 i=5 P=38
Then we apply it or substitute to the
formula.
Class Interval Frequency Lower Less than CF
Scores f Boundaries (LB) (<cf)

46 – 50 4 45.5 50
35%
41 – 45 8 40.5 46
36 – 40 11 35.5 38
31 – 35 9 30.5 27
26 – 30 12 25.5 18
65%
21 – 25 6 20.5 6

Therefore, 65% of the

scores are less than the
cumulative frequency of 38
while, 35% of the scores are
greater than the cumulative
frequency of 38
