Janata Party. From soirees in South Africa to rallies in Raichur, the man is a
complex network of thoughts and ideas all rolled into one massive brand.

 He even carefully applies this energy to combat his greatest fear: failure.

Journey Of An Entrepreneur To Business Tycoon
 Mallya was only in his 20s when his father died in 1983, leaving him in control of an
empire with annual revenues of $100 million.

 He spent the next two decades winnowing the 22 businesses he inherited - ranging
from a brewery to a drug maker to a battery manufacturer - to just a half-dozen.
Today, revenues for the UB Group run to $1.2 billion.

 In 1988, Vijay Mallya became a non-resident Indian to pursue global opportunities


and to transform the UB Group into India‘s first multinational.

 In 1990, Mallya led the restructuring of The UB Group, retaining only the areas of
core competence, transforming the vastly diversified UB conglomerate into a
businesses that dramatically increased shareholder value.

 in 1996, he became a leading global provider of a broad spectrum of IT services and


IT products for the vast US market.

 Mallya entered politics in 2000 and replaced Subramanian Swamy as the president
of the Janata Party, a breakaway faction of the original Janata Dal party.

 Vijay Mallya is noted for his successful bidding in auction of items that are
considered of great cultural value to India. In 2004, he placed the winning bid of
£175,000 for the sword of Tipu Sultan at an auction in London, and brought it back
to India.

 In March 2009, Mallya successfully bid for the belongings of Mahatma Gandhi at
US$1.8 million, in a New York auction that initially caused an uproar in India and its
government tried and failed to prevent it from going under the hammer.

 Mallya personally steered The UB Group’s entry in civil aviation with Kingfisher
Airlines, launched in May 2005. The full service luxury domestic airline operates a
fleet of 13 brand new aircraft that provide 70 daily flights connecting 16 cities.

 Sales of the UB Spirits Division have exceeded 60 million cases (9 liters each) during
the fiscal year 2005-06 making the UB Group, the third largest beverage alcohol
company in the world.

 The UB Group today controls 60% of the total manufacturing capacity for Beer in
India. The flagship brand, Kingfisher is now sold in over 50 countries worldwide
having received many accolades for its quality.

 The newest venture of The UB Group is in Civil Aviation. Kingfisher Airlines Limited
launched scheduled Airline services on May 9, 2005 with 4 flights a day with one
brand new Airbus A-320 aircraft.

 It was India’s second largest budget carrier. Designer uniforms for stewards, bold
usage of colour palette inside the aircraft and the ever so charming kingfisher logo.
Kingfisher airlines proved out to be the most glamorous domestic airlines. 

 In just 10 months from launch, Kingfisher Airlines has received 3 International


Awards.:

 After Mallya’s successful airline venture, he joined hands with NDTV in launching
India’s first lifestyle channel – NDTV Good Times and it came into being on
September 7, 2007.

 Vijay Mallya, a sports lover, bought Spykar F1 team along with Micheil Mol in
October 2007 for 88 million Euros

 Mallya's flagship firm UB Group owns the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the
Indian Premier League. He won this team in an auction by paying US$111.6 million
for the team.

 Vijay Mallya has recently indicated its intention to buy AS Bari, a football team
which plays in the Italian Serie A.

 Vijay Mallya owns one of the largest private yachts in the world called Indian
Empress .

Kingfisher Airlines(airbus)

 Establishing kingfisher airlines was the most innovative step taken by Vijay
Mallya

 In 2005, Mallya established Kingfisher Airlines. At present, the airline connects


32 cities. Kingfisher Airlines obtained a 26% stake in Air Deccans, a low cost
Indian airline which Mallya later acquired fully and rebranded as Kingfisher Red.
Vijay Mallya and his Jet airways counterpart Naresh Goyal announced an alliance
after a marathon meeting on 13 October 2008 at Mumbai, India.

  An Airbus A 380, the biggest passenger airliner in the world

 Airbus has by far the most modern airliner family and, with new aircraft that
respond to every airline need from the 100 seat A318 all the way up to 555-seat
21st Century flagship A380, it is also the largest and most versatile.

 Mallya, you might say, is Indias Sir Richard Branson. Like the British
entrepreneur, he has a larger-than-life personality and owns a slew of
businesses, from breweries (his Kingfisher beer is a staple of Indian restaurants
from Kolkata to Cleveland) to Kingfisher Airlines, a leading Indian carrier.

 UB Group is the worlds No. 3 spirits conglomerate, after Diageo PLC  and
Pernod Ricard. Mallyas empire also spans engineering, fertilizers, and
petrochemicals.

 Among his personal investments are thoroughbred horses, a game lodge in


South Africa, and small newspapers in the San Francisco Bay Area. “I’m not
making money on , but it’s a fun business to be in,” he says. Mallya’s latest
move: a May 31 takeover bid for Indian low-cost carrier Air Deccan.
