Global environmental challenges, such as
impacts of
climate change,
loss of biodiversity,
over-use of natural resources,
leading to environmental and health issues, are
critically linked to issues of poverty and the
sustainability of ecosystems, and
consequently, issues of resource security and
political stability.
Journey of Green Buildings till

“More than 4,300 projects with about 4.7 billion sqft of built-up area
had registered for green technology as of September 2017.

However, only about 5% of the total buildings in India, and hence there
is huge potential for further penetration of green building technology.

Growing at an exponential rate, the Indian green buildings' market is


expected to double and may reach around 10 billion sqft by 2022,
valued between USD 35 billion-USD 50 billion”.

ASSOCHAM has launched the “GEM Sustainability (Green)


Certification Program” in August 2018 with the objective to
promote environment friendly green building design and
construction.

GEM Sustainability Certification Rating Program is based upon


BEE ECBC 2017 and NBC 2016.

Through this initiative, ASSOCHAM has started awarding the


Sustainability Certification Rating to Housing, Commercial
Offices, Hotels, Colleges, Universities, Schools and Factory
buildings and related developments. All existing, under
construction or upcoming projects can register for this
certification rating program.
