F1 Presentation Updated

Formula One pit stops require highly coordinated teamwork to complete tasks in just 3 seconds, including lifting the car, changing four tires with air guns, refueling, and minor repairs. A team of 27 people have specialized roles like operating jacks, guiding the driver in, and clearing debris. The challenges include tight time limits, risk, precision, and communication under pressure without room for error. Pit stops demonstrate how precision planning, roles, feedback, and practice can enable perfect coordination and peak performance through teamwork.

-After 2010, and the ban on refuelling, the typical Formula 1 pit stop
takes roughly 3 seconds. In this time, the following are usually
accomplished:
- Communication with driver
- Location of pit stall
- Reminders (put car in gear, reset fuel)
- Lift car with lever jacks
- Remove tires with high speed air gun, replace tire with new
one
- Manual adjustment of car’s front wing (adjust downforce)
- Various cleaning (radiator duct, driver visor)

Formula One Pit Stops: Roles of the team

TEAM MEMBERS:

McLaren Mercedes has a crew of 27 people working on each car.

During the pit stop, the following roles are essential:

1. Front Jack – used to lift the car off the ground to enable tires to be
replaced
2. Lollipop man – guides the driver into the correct pit box and controls
the release of the car once stop is finished
3. Three mechanics for each wheel (one with airgun, others to help
remove and replace wheel)
4. Mechanic with spare jump start battery in case of engine stall. This
mechanic also usually clears the radiator during stop.
5. Mechanic with spare scissor jack to lift car in case other lifting
mechanisms (nose or rear) are damaged.
6. Rear jack – also used to lift car for tire replacement
7. Engineer who coordinates information and instructions from Senior
Engineers/Tacticians behind pit wall
8. Mechanic to clear driver’s visor and help clean debris from radiator
