RECYCLING AT

PLEASANTVILLE
SECONDARY
ICARE BINS AROUND THE SCHOOL
What is recycling?
 Recycling is the process of breaking down and
re-using materials that would otherwise be
thrown away as trash.
Why is recycling important?
 Recycling is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on the
world in which we live. Recycling is important to both the natural
environment and us. We must act fast as the amount of waste we create is
increasing all the time.Environmental Importance:
 •Recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the
natural environment.
 •Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in
landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.
 •Habitat destruction and global warming are some the affects caused by
deforestation.
 •Recycling reduces the need for raw materials so that the rainforests can
be preserved.
 •Huge amounts of energy are used when making products from raw
materials.
 •Recycling requires much less energy and therefore helps to preserve
natural resources.
 Importance To People:
 •Recycling is essential to cities around the world and to the people
living in them.
 •No space for waste. Our landfill sites are filling up fast.
 •Reduce financial expenditure in the economy. Making products
from raw materials costs much more than if they were made from
recycled products.
 •Preserve natural resources for future generations. Recycling
reduces the need for raw materials; it also uses less energy,
therefore preserving natural resources for the future.
How can you recycle?

 Reduce – Limit the use of plastic materials.

 Reuse– Try to find ways to make plastic
reusable.
 Recycle– Throw plastic materials into the
ICARE bins.
What is ICARE?
 iCARE is the Community, Awareness, Recycle, Everyday
programme.Since there is a desparate need in Trinidad and
Tobago to develop a culture of recycling, reducing waste
and reusing materials, the EMA launched the iCare project
in 2015.iCare has collected over 400,000 bags of beverage
container recyclables, which include plastics, glass,
tetrapacks (e.g. juice boxes) and aluminium
cans.Recyclable collection bins have been placed at
public collection sites in schools and communities across
Trinidad and Tobago.THE recycling bins are being operated
by NGO Greenlight Network Plastikeep and have been
transferred to the Environmental Management Authority
(EMA) iCARE (Community, Awareness, Recycle, Everyday)
programme.
What are the importance of the
ICARE bins around the school?
 This promotes the awareness of recycling to students
and It also provides a way for our school to be apart of
helping save our environment by being a solution.
 It may decrease the risk of floods occurring in
surrounding areas because recycling can reduce
pollution. It may also reduce health issues which can be
spread to humans through polluted waters etc.
 To educate, you the students on how they can do their
part and recycle to create a better environment.
