WHAT IS PRONOUNS?
A pronoun is a word that refers to or takes the place of a noun.
The noun being referred to is called the antecedent. The identity
of the pronoun is made clear by the antecedent. For example:

The boy said that he was tired


Boy: antecedent
He: pronouns
Types of pronouns
PERSONAL PRONOUN
Personal pronoun is a short word we use as a simple substitute
for the proper name of a person. It can be divided into two
groups: nominative and objective.
a. Nominative Subjective
(I, we, you, they, he, she, it)
* The boy travelled with friends.  He travelled with friends.
* Yovan and Rinan go to museum this morning.  They go to
museum this morning.
b. Objective (Me,
us, you, them, him, her, it)
* The boy traveled with friends.  The
boy travelled with them.
* Sari wants to meet Tia.  Sari wants to
DEMONSTRATIVE PRONOUN
Demonstrative Pronoun is used to point to something
specific within a sentence. (This, that, those, these)
* This is your pen.
* Those are my books.
POSSESSIVE PRONOUN

Possessive pronouns are pronouns that show


ownership; in other words,
something belongs to someone else (Mine, yours,
theirs, ours, his, hers).
*This house is hers. (hers = Possessive
Pronouns).
*This is her house. (her =Possessive
Adjectives).
RELATIVE PRONOUN
Is refer to nouns mentioned Note:

* Which pen is yours? (which =
Adjectives)
INDEFINITE PRONOUNS
Referring to one or more unspecified objects,
beings, or places, such as someone, anybody,
nothing. (Anyone, somebody, whichever, whoever,
other, something, nobody)

* Would anyone like a coffee?
* Whoever owns this is in big trouble! I
want someone to move this now.

Indefinite pronouns can also be used to create


sentences that are almost abstract. Examples could
include: this, all, such and something.
* All was not lost.
* Such is life.
* Something tells me this won’t end well.
REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS
Reflexive Pronouns are pronouns that are used to show that the
subject of
the sentence is receiving the action of the verb (myself,
yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves).

Ex./
*I cut myself with a knife
*Mom help herself this morning
*She comfort herself by listening music
*She can handle the situation herself.
*We can write the paper ourselves.
INTENSIVE
PRONOUNS
Intensive Pronouns are pronouns that are used only
to place emphasis on the subject and are not
essential to the meaning of the sentence.
Note: These pronouns look the same as
reflexive pronouns, but they act differently in
the sentence and are always placed next to the
subject that they are emphasizing (myself,
yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves,
themselves).

For example:
You yourself must go to the police station.
*Here, the pronoun “yourself” is used only to place
emphasis on the subject “you” and does not change
the meaning of the sentence
*Mary herself repaired the
*Alex does the test himself. Ted computer.
himself does the test. *Jack himself gave me the
*Bob does the test by himself. book.
*Henry himself who told me so.
RECIPROCAL
PRONOUNS
To expressing mutual actions or relationship
(Each other, one another)

Ex./:

* They’re shaking hand to each


other.
*All children love one another.
*The boxers punched each other
