Siria Anie Home Automation 2009

This document discusses how home and building automation can improve energy efficiency. It provides three key points: 1) Traditionally, energy focused on production and distribution, but a new approach is to conserve rather than consume energy. An efficient building achieved through home and building automation is a new energy source. 2) Home and building automation systems can manage functions like comfort, entertainment, security, safety and lighting to reduce energy consumption in buildings. New European standards provide metrics to measure savings from different levels of automation. 3) Case studies show the potential energy savings. For example, an art museum in Italy reduced its electrical use by 28.5% and carbon emissions through building automation, paying back installation costs in one

Home and building energy efficiency

We were focusing on energy production and

distribution, but the new way to handle energy is
to think energy as something to save not to
consume.

A new energy source is having an efficient Building

and the easy way to achieve this with home and
building automation

BUILDING AUTOMATION

Building Automation

...Is focusing on the technological part of the building –

main target is the management of the resouce .

6
Target : reducing energy
consumption in the building
The new European Norm CEN EN15232 “ Energy performance
of building – impact of Building Automation , Controls and
Building Management “ is focusing on the fact the one of the
major saving resource for the energy consumption are the
Home and building automation :

cooling lighting

7
HOW?..
• It is mandatory that the new and old electrical plan of the
building are using a special devices in order to achieve some level
of automation and intelligent control.

• The Automation system (BACS/HBES) are targeting the

maximum energy efficiency for the building base on the internal
and external environment condition and providing the best level
of Comfort , security, safety, and quality

8
Tecnology = Innovation and Quality
together for energy saving
• The proposal methodology in CEN EN15232, is based on BAC
Factors, this are defined thru a mix of statistical analisys and
field test and for the first time it is possible to have a
deterministic value of the saving coming from the building
automation
• This tool allow diring the design stage the saving of different
level of automation call efficency class

9
Energy Efficency Class

• Class D “NON ENERGY EFFICIENT” : traditional plan without

automation ;
• Class C “STANDARD” (basic level ): plan with a BACS/HBES
automation system – is basic class level;
• Class B “ADVANCED” : plan with BACS/HBES and centralized
control and management;
• Class A “HIGH ENERGY PERFORMANCE” : like Class B but with
higher level of automation and precision.

A real case: MART Rovereto
Italy
• the MART (Modern art museum of Trento and Rovereto) it was consuming
in 2006 2.300.000 kWh.

• With building automation control the saving was :

•28.5% of electrical energy

•354 ton of CO2 - like 100 cars per year
•Breck even cost in ONE year!!!

15
Conclusion
 energy efficency = saving = a new form of energy
generation .

 you have to think all the plan in the building as an

integrated solution – So heating and lighting the are working
together for the best performance.

 in 2009 it is not possible to think energy startegic plan

without a smart way of handling energy and building
automation is a technolgy available today and ready for the
tomorrow
