Writing A Program For Tapping Cycle On CNC Milling Machine

This lab covers writing a CNC program for tapping cycles on a milling machine. The document introduces tapping as cutting internal threads using spindle rotation. It discusses the G84 and G74 codes for right and left-hand tapping along with calculating the appropriate feed rate based on rpm and pitch. The program lists coordinates and code blocks to perform tapping cycles at two locations using different tools and spindle speeds.

Writing A Program for Tapping

Cycle on CNC Milling Machine
Objective
• In this lab we have to learn about tapping cycle
operationusing CNC milling machine and
constructing a program for tapping cycle.
Introduction
• Tapping is the process of cutting a thread
inside a hole so that a cap screw or bolt can be
threaded into the hole.

Codes
• G84 Code: Tapping of right hand threads to be
done with M03 spindle rotation.
• G74 Code: Tapping of left hand threads to be
done with M04 spindle rotation.

Feed Calculations
Feed = RPM * Pitch
If pitch= 0.5 mm RPM= 200 rpm
Feed = 200 * 0.5 mm
Feed = 100 mm/min
