the Elementary Grades
Course Outline
I. Course Description
This course deals with the educational
foundations of Music as it applies to teaching
and learning in the elementary grades. Various
teaching strategies and assessment appropriate
for each area shall be given emphases in the
courses.
Based on CHED Memorandum Order No. 74,

• Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the
concept, elements and principles of music in
the elementary grades.
• Employ varied teaching strategies in
teaching music in the elementary level.
• Demonstrate confidence in demonstrating
teaching applying the strategies in teaching
music in the elementary level.

(love) and ‘sophia’ (wisdom).
- literally defined as “the love of
wisdom.”
What is Music?
- an art of sound in time that
expresses ideas and emotions in
significant forms through the
elements of rhythm, melody,
harmony, and color.
What is Philosophy of Music
Education?
-It refers to the value of music, the
value of teaching music, and how to
practically utilize those values in the
music classroom.
