Speaker
• Uses:
• Speakers are one of the most common Disadvantages:
output devices used with computer systems. • They need extra space.
Some speakers are designed to work • Wireless speakers are expensive.
specifically with computers, while others can • some wireless systems have a shorter range.
be hooked up to any type of sound system.
• Advantages:
• No technical training is required to use
speakers.
• They produce accurate sounds.
• They are externally connected with
computers.
Camera
•Uses:
• A camera is an optical instrument used to record images.
•Advantages:
• High speed, high pixel depth, and large image sizes.
• Easy to configure camera options and other functionality.
•Disadvantages:
• No physical or protocol standard for interfacing with frame grabbers
• Require custom cables and connectors
Webcam
•Uses:
• A webcam is a video camera that feeds or streams an image or
video in real time to or through a computer to a computer network,
such as the Internet.
•Advantages:
• Able to interact with people across long distances
• Becoming more and more easy to use
•Disadvantages:
• Feed when video chatting can be choppy/pixelated.
• Discourages people to interact face-to-face.
Scanner
•Uses:
• A scanner is an optional piece of computer hardware
that uses reflected light to capture images and translate them
into files a computer can read and display.
•Advantages:
• Flatbed scanners are very accurate and can produce reasonably
high-quality images.
•Disadvantages:
• Images produced by the scanner can take up a lot of memory
space.
Central Processing Unit (CPU)
• CPU is considered as the brain of the computer.
CPU performs all types of data processing
operations. It stores data, intermediate results, and
instructions (program). It controls the operation of all
parts of the computer.
• CPU’s usually consist of multiples cores. Each core
is separate processor, so a quad-core CPU has 4
processors.
Motherboard
• The motherboard is a
printed circuit board and
foundation of a computer
that is the biggest board
in a computer chassis.
• The motherboard
connects other hardware
components such as:
RAM, the CPU and
expansion cards.
Read Only Memory
READ ONLY MEMORY (ROM) IS IT IS PERMANENT AND IT IS NON-
MEMORY THAT, ONCE IT HAS VOLATILE, WHICH MEANS THAT
WRITTEN TO, CAN NO LONGER BE WHEN THERE IS NO POWER TO THE
CHANGED. COMPUTER, THE CONTENTS OF THE
ROM WILL BE RETAINED.
Graphics Card
• A graphics card is also known as a video
card, display adapter or graphics
adapter. It is a printed circuit board that
connects to one of the motherboard’s
expansion slots.
• Its purpose is to generate the signals
needed to display the output image
from the computer.
Sound Card
• The purpose of a sound card is to
generate the signals needed to output
sound from the computer to a speaker
or a set of speakers.
Hard Disk Drive
• A hard disk drive (HDD) is
the most common form of
secondary storage for a
computer due to its
relatively low cost per MB.
• The hard drive disk
consists of two main parts:
the device that is the
electronics which store the
data, and the disk that is
the medium onto which
data is stored .
Solid State Drive
• A solid-state drive (SSD) in another secondary storage device that is non-
volatile.
