Comparing Plant
Parts
All plants have roots, stems, and leaves. Some plants are
the same in color, size and shape of their parts.

The leaves of rose plant are small The leaves of the gabi plant are big
and oval shaped with sharp edges. and heart-shaped.
Comparing Roots
Plants have different kinds of roots. Some plants have tiny and soft roots,
while others have big and hard roots.
• The roots that comes out first
is primary roots.
• A roots branch out from the
primary root is called
secondary roots.
Comparing Stems
• Some plants have soft, juicy and hollow stems.
Examples:
• The stem of kangkong is soft and hollow.
• The stem of pechay is soft and juicy.
• Other plants like santan and gumamela have tough
and woody stems.
• Climbing stems are thing and very long. They grow upward and
climb around pole or trellis.
Examples:
• Bitter guard (ampalaya)
• Ridge guard (patola)
• Creeping stems are long and slender. They are weak, so they stay
close to the ground.
Examples:
• Squash
• Watermelon
Comparing Leaves
• Leaves of a plants maybe similar or different.
• Some long and thin like the corn leaf. Others are
heart shaped like gabi. Some leaves are small like
those of the tamarind. Other leaves are big like
those of the banana. Still, other leaves have
irregular edges like those papaya.
Lets study the parts of a leaf.
