Represent Real-Life Situations Using One-To One Functions

This document discusses one-to-one functions and provides examples to determine if a relation represents a function and if it is one-to-one or not. A one-to-one function assigns each element in the domain to a unique element in the range. The document gives the definition of a one-to-one function and provides examples of relations that are and are not functions and that are and are not one-to-one. It asks the reader to determine the type of relation in additional examples.

REPRESENT REAL-LIFE

SITUATIONS USING ONE-TO

ONE FUNCTIONS
ONE-TO-ONE FUNCTION

A function is one-to-one(1-1) if every element of the

range corresponds to exactly one element of the domain
A function f is one-to -one if then f(x1) = f(x2) then
x1= x2.
For any given y value, there is only one x that can be
paired with the given y
EXAMPLES:

• Tell whether the given relation is a FUNCTION OR NOT

FUNCTION. If it is a function, determine whether it is ONE-TO-
ONE or NOT ONE-TO-ONE.
