Folk Dance

Folk dance is the oldest form of communication and expression through rhythmic movement. It reflects the traditional life and culture of the people. There are 5 major classifications of Philippine folk dances: Cordillera dances of mountain tribes like the Bontoc and Ifugao; Spanish-influenced dances adapted from European styles; Muslim dances influenced by traders incorporating arm movements; tribal dances reflecting rituals, spirits and crafts; and rural dances performed in festivals and for harvest celebrations.

FOLK DANCE

DANCE
A form of expression of oneself through rhythmic
movement.
FOLK DANCE
The oldest and earliest form of communication. A form
of dance develop by a group of people.
It reflects the traditional life of the people which
evolved naturally and spontaneously with everyday
activities.
A recreational or cermonial dance usually performed by
members of the community to which the dance is
traditional.
5 MAJOR CLASSIFICATION OF
PHILLIPINE FOLK DANCE
CORDILLERA DANCES
Bontoc, Ifugao, Benguet, Kalinga, Apayao and Kalinga
tribes.
Dances reflects rituals which celebrates their daily lives.
A people whose way of life existed long before any
Spaniard or other foreigners stepped foot on the
Philippines.

It reflects rituals and animals belief in spirits and
shamans nature.

Intricate craftmaship in metal, clothing, and


jewelry.
T-BOLI MANOBO
RURAL DANCES
It reflects the simple life of barrio. It also
performed in fiestas to honor saints or patron.
Shows gaiety, laughter and festivities. Give
homage to the barrios namesake for a good
harvest, health and perseverance.
