Background of the case
1. Amisha Gupta's first year at Xciting, an IT firm, is depicted in this scenario.
2. It chronicles her first year at the firm, from trainee to professional (or, to put it
another way, from graduate to ‘Xciter’).
3. It demonstrates how she dealt with various types of problems or obstacles in the
training process, as well as how she acted emotionally and psychologically
when confronted with them.
What is the problem?
The main problems of the case are as follows:
1. Team formation with unknowns
2. How Amisha was treated by her trainer
3. Amisha dealing with team members during her training
4. Disturbed work- life balance
5. Amisha could not spend enough time with her friends
6. Dealing with the relocation from one office to another
Mismatch between Amisha and Xciting
1. Amisha did not get a chance to correct her work professionally.
2. She had a negative experience in dealing with her trainer
3. People in her team were not willing to work.
What can be done on the part of the organization?
Certain changes can be made in the socializing activities of Xciting:
1. The company can organize a lunch with the entire team where all the interns get a chance to interact with
each other and also open up.
2. First day of the employment should be made special like giving them an office tour or welcoming them in a
special way to remove their nervousness and anxiety.
3. They can conduct picnics so that the employees get to know about each other and see each others different
side outside the work environment.
4. Employees should be given regular reviews and feedbacks so that they can improve themselves timely.
5. Periodic follow ups can be done by the managers on all employees.
Learnings from the case
We can take the following learnings from the case:
1. When organizations are hiring freshers they should focus on smooth
onboarding process of the freshers.
2. They should include certain fun, team building and socializing activities so that
they feel that they are a part of the organization.
3. The company should take care of their employees since we know that the
employees are an asset to any organization.
