Definition (2)
Case study research is a qualitative approach in which the
investigator explores a bounded system (a case) or multiple
bounded systems (cases) over time, through detailed, in -
depth data collection involving multiple sources of
information (e.g., observations, interviews, audiovisual
material, and documents and reports), and reports a case
description and case based themes (2007, p. 73, emphasis in
original).
Definition (3)
Case study allows you to focus in-depth on a
“case” and to retain a holistic and real-world
perspective, such as in studying individual life
cycles, small group behavior, organizational
and managerial processes, neighborhood
change, school performance, international
relations, and the maturation of industries.
Stake (2005) states that case study research is not a
methodology but a choice of what is to be studied (i.e., a case
within a bounded system, bounded by time and place)
whereas others present it as strategy of inquiry, a
methodology, or a comprehensive research strategy.
Definition (4)
Case study research is an investigative approach used
to thoroughly describe complex phenomena, such as
recent events, important issues, or programs, in ways
to unearth new and deeper understanding of these
phenomena.

Conclusion
A case study as the intensive study of a single case
where the purpose of that study is – at least in part
– to shed light on a larger class of cases (a
population).
It has some characteristics such as begins with the
identification of a specific case and the key to the
case identification is bounded.
Some types i.e. exploratory, explanatory,
descriptive, single instrumental, collective/
multiple case study, and intrinsic case study.
And case study has its own procedures and
challenges.
