DEFINITION:
• It is also known as Computer Age, Digital Age, or New
Media Age
• A historical period began in mid-20th century
specifically around 1970’s
• Characterized by a rapid epochal shift from the
traditional industry established by the Industrial
Revolution
• This era brought about a time period in which people
could access information and knowledge easily.
1 Different Types
of Computer
1. Supercomputer
- is the most powerful multi-user and fastest
computer in the world. It calculates trillion
million instructions per second up to 14
accurate decimal places. Therefore, it is
called “Number Cruncher”. Multi CPUs are
working together on this computer.
Supercomputer
2. Mainframe Computer
-is an expensive and a multi-user /
multiprocessing computer capable of
supporting more than hundreds or
thousands of users at the same time. These
computers have large size and memory
and more powerful than Minicomputer.
Mainframe Computer
3. Minicomputer
-A Minicomputer is a multi-user /
multiprocessing computer capable to
handle 10 to 200 users simultaneously.
These types of computers have a medium
size, small memory and more powerful
and expensive than Microcomputer.
Minicomputer
4. Personal Computer or Microcomputer

-It is a single-user computer based on a


microprocessor/microchip inside. It is
designed for one person therefore it is called a
personal computer. These Computers are small
in size, small in memory, and less expensive.

checking the website and its reliability
1. Authority: Who created the site?
• What is their authority?
• Do they have expertise or experience with the
topic?
• What are their credentials, institutional
affiliation?
• Is organizational information provided?
2. Objectivity: Is the purpose and intention of the site
clear, including any bias or particular viewpoint?

• Are the purpose and scope stated?


• Who is the intended audience?
• Is the information clearly presented as being
factual or opinion, primary or secondary in origin?
• What criteria are used for inclusion of the
information?
3. Accuracy: Is the information presented accurate?

• Are the facts documented or well-


researched?
• Are the facts similar to those reported in
related print or other online sources?
• Are the Web resources for which links are
provided quality sites?
4. Currency: Is the information current?

• Is the content current?


• Are the pages date-stamped with last
update?
5. Usability: Is the site well-designed and
stable?
• Is the site organization logical and easy to maneuver?
• Is the content written at a level that is readable by the
intended audience?
• Has attention been paid to presenting the information
as error-free (e.g., spelling, punctuation) as possible?
• Is the site reliably accessible?
