99 Speedmart began in 1987 as a small family-owned sundry mart called 'Pasar Raya Hiap Hoe'. Through hard work and dedication, the founder Mr. Lee Thiam Wah expanded it to eight outlets by 1992-1998. In 2000, Mr. Lee rebranded the chain as 99 Speedmart to allow for more intensive expansion. The first store bearing the 99 Speedmart name opened in Klang Utama. By 2002, 99 Speedmart completed its first head office and distribution center and continued growing, receiving its first consumer choice award in 2006. An second distribution center in 2008 helped 99 Speedmart further expand its network of mini-markets nationwide.
