Introduction
1. Herbal Cosmetics are the products that are formulated, using various permissible
cosmetic ingredients to form the base in which one or more herbal ingredients are
used to provide defined cosmetic benefits.
2. The word cosmetic was acquire from the Greek word “kosm tikos” meaning having
the power, order, skill in decorating.
3. The birth of cosmetics form a continuous narrative throughout the history of man as
they developed. The man in ancient times 3000BC used colors for the decoration to
charm the animals that he wished to hunt and also the man survived attack from the
rival by coloring his skin and adorned his body for protection to provoke fear in an
enemy (whether man or animal).
4. Herbs have been used in the following ways - In cooking for flavoring foods, as
perfumes, as disinfectants, to protect us against germs, as medicines to heal when
we are sick.
5. Herbal extracts as the name suggests, is the extract of herbs. Herbal extracts are an
ancient methodology as its references have been discovered in holy Vedas and in
Unani scriptures.

Conclusion
The knowledge of medicinal plant used by the people seems to be well
known to its cultural and tradition.
In present study we identified many plants used by the people to cure
dramatological disorders and as cosmetics.
Herbal Cosmetics are used for the beautifications purpose mainly.
Their demands has increased vigorously since they have certain advantages
over the synthetic cosmetics :
They are cheap in cost.
They are easily available in the market.
They are least toxic and also having least or no adverse effects.
The quality control test must be carried out for herbal cosmetic .It is
assumed to be safe for longer period of time.
So from all the study of Herbal Cosmetics we can conclude that “The Herbal
Cosmetics are the most significant alternative for the synthetic cosmetics”.
