history
Swimming has been part of the disciplines of the Olympic Games
of the modern era since its inception, in Athens in 1896, although
the participation of swimminers was limited to men and it was not
until 1912, at theStockolm Games, When the competition was
opened to women.
Originally the Olimpic swimming events took place in the sea or an
artificial lake and in 1908, at the London Games, They were held in
a pool.
Rules and pool
It was at the Paris Olympics in 1924, When the lanes of the pools were incorporated and the pools were
incorporated and the Olympic length of the pools was set at 50 meters.
During the first Olympic competitions the varation of the type of the tests and the regulations was continuous,
as wellnas nuclear, and to avoid this situation the International Amateur Swimming Federation was created in
1908, whose objective was to celebrate amateur races, establish unified rules for swimming, jumping and wáter
polo, as well as verifying world records and posting a list of them.
In 1896 four tests were carried out:100, 500 and 1,200 meters in freestyle, and another event of 100 meters
freestyle only for Greek sailors.
The second Olympic games in Paris, in 1900, already includedthe 200, 1,000 and 4,000 meters and 200 meters
backstroke.
The butterfly style was originally developed as a variant of the breastsroke, until it was accepted as an oficial
sport in 1952.
There are currently 17 events in the Olympics, the same
for men and women, and they are executed in four
styles: crawl, butterfly, backstroke and breastsroke
