It helps us to understand how a child learns and develops intellectually. 

The philosophy of constructivism has been responsible for giving rise to the


concept of constructivist learning. 

This theory makes the shift from education based on behaviourism  व्यवहारवाद to


the education based on cognitivism संज्ञानात्‍मक. 
Constructivism and its types 

Individual constructivism propagated by Swiss psychologist Jean


Piaget. 

Social constructivism propagated by Russian psychologist Lev


Vygotsky. 

Radical constructivism(strong views) propagated by German


psychologist Von Glaserfeld. 

Cognitive constructivism (A blend of individual and social


constructivism) propagated by American psychologist Jerome Bruner.

Student point of view:
Actually, the knowledge belongs to the knower who owns it.

He has to struggle for its acquisition. 

He can be very good at it if he actively engages in knowledge gaining process.

He can be helped directly or indirectly by social and cultural forces/tools existing


in his environment.

For example, The language and guidance provided by the elders. 


Implication of constructivism:

It focuses more on knowledge getting process rather than the product


of knowledge as compared to the traditional classroom teaching.

It requires that learner must take active part in knowledge gaining process


rather than being passive recipients of knowledge learner.

Students should try to infer their own meaning and construct their own knowledge
while interacting within their classroom or social environment.

Constructivism argues and demonstrates that a learner better learns when he


is given opportunities to construct or discover the knowledge by himself. 
Here student construct his knowledge but social tools play key
role in accomplishment of his learning goals.

As the students differ in their prior knowledge and experiences we feel output from
learners also differs.

Teacher has to put them on right track and protecting them to develop false
information.

It tries to encourage all the techniques which are learner centered and encourage
understanding.
