Capitalization

Capitalization
• Capitalization is the process of
capitalizing words necessary to
make sentences understandable.
Common Rules of Capitalization
• Rule-1: Capitalize the first word in a
sentence.
• Example: The game had commenced
when I came.
• Rule-2: Capitalize the pronoun I any
where in the sentence.
• Example: I was invited to the presidential
palace yesterday.
• My friend and I are going to the beach.
Common Rules of Capitalization
• Rule-3: Capitalize the abbreviations
made by the first letters of words.
• Example: UNESCO have
considered Laas Geel to be a
historical site which is vital to
preserve.
• We are visiting U.S next month.
Common Rules of Capitalization

Rule-4: Capitalize all proper nouns.


A: The names of deities.
Example: Allah has bestowed upon us a lot of
bounties.
B: Names of people and their titles.
Example: Ali won the race by a huge margin.
President Omer survived the attack by the
skin of his teeth.
• C: Names of languages and religions.
Example: He speaks English, French and
Arabic fluently. She is a Muslim, not a
Christian.
• D: Names of nationalities, and ethnicities.
Example: African countries are lagging
behind in development.
He is Ethiopian by nationality and I am
Egyptian. He is Somali by ethnicity.
• E: Names of continents, countries,
regions, cities, towns, villages.etc.
• Example: He was born and raised in
Sweden.
• Berbera Maritime and Fisheries
Academy is located in Berbera,
Somaliland.
• F: Names of days, and months.
• Example: The exam is on Sunday.
• The delegation will arrive in April.
• G: Names of specific structures
(buildings, bridges, and monuments,
etc. )
• Example: The ceremony was held in
Damal Hotel.
• The Aw-Barkhadle Bridge is to be
finished in a matter of months.
• H: Names of specific organizations
(businesses, schools, universities,
government agencies, and sports teams).
• Example: Berbera Maritime and Fisheries
Academy is crucial for the capacity
building of the nation.
• Most of the students graduated from
Bursade and Abdisalan Secondary
Schools.
