“Surroundings in which the organisation operates, including air, water, land
natural resources, flora, fauna, humans and their interrelation”.

• Environment:- the surrounding to the human being
which includes water, air & land & the inter –
relationship which exists among & between water,
air land and other living creatures, plants, micro-
organism & property.
• Environment Pollutant:- it means any solid, liquid,
or gaseous substance present in such concentration
as may be , or tend to be, injurious to environment.
• Environment Pollution :- it means the presences
in the environment of any environmental pollutant.
• Water Pollution:- Presence of any solid, liquid,
or gaseous substance in water in such a
concentration which may be or tend to be
injurious to human being or other living
creatures or environment.
• Air Pollution:- Presence of any solid, liquid, or
gaseous substance including Noise in air in such
a concentration which may be or tend to be
injurious to human being or other living
creatures or environment.
• Soil Pollution:- Presence of any solid, liquid
substance in soil in such a concentration which
may be or tend to be injurious to human being or
other living creatures or environment.
• Noise Pollution:- Wrong sound at wrong place
at wrong time.
• Effect of ‘greenhouse gases’ forming an
envelope around the earth, where they act like
a greenhouse, in that they allow sunlight to
enter but hinder its release

Die back of tropical rainforests accelerates
Sea level has risen 10-25cms over the last
further increases in CO 2. Expansion of desert areas in
century.
Its predicted to rise a further 44cm by 2080 India, Africa and North America.
Drought Famine Disease
Increasing world population will Decreasing crop yields, reducing cereal Malaria will flourish in more places,
result in water stress. Climate production by 10%.By 2050, 30 million putting about 290million people
change will worsen the effect. people will be at high risk from famine. at risk by 2080.

• Due to depletion in Ozone
layer Ultra - Violet rays
comes directly reach to the
earth due to this along with
skin disorder the temp of
both poles are increased
day by day., which results in
to the iceberg gets melts
due to this there is
increased in sea water level.
If this situation continuous
then the land nears to the
sea gets merge in water.
Due to heavy industrilatiton
humans left the gases like
SO3, NO2 are released in
atmosphere. When they
combine with rain water
they converted into acid
rain.
SO3+H2O==H2SO4
NO2+H2o==HNO3
• Purchase Energy saving appliances
• Choose products with recyclable packaging.
• Do not get products which has too much of packaging
• Reuse paper bags. Use Recycled products
• Recycle paper, plastics, and metals
• Say NO to plastic bags. Carry a bag for shopping
• Use Renewable energy source
• Select products that are water-based or have low amounts
of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
• Use water-based paints. Look for paints labeled "zero-VOC."
• Shop by phone or online.
• Use public transportation.
• Plant a tree which consumes less water
• Do not use chemical pesticides.
• Turn off the lights/Fans when you leave the place/conference rooms.
• Print and photocopy on both sides of the paper.
• Communicate mostly mail or telephone instead of documents as far
as possible.
• Eliminate all unnecessary driving and/or combine trips.
• Used battery operated forklift/ trollies instead of diesel operated.
• Used maximum natural ventilation. Optimize use of natural lighting.
• Use energy efficient lamps and luminaries.
• Keep clean all lighting equipment and reflectors.
• Attend water leakage immediately.
• Compress air is most expensive please attend leakage or
avoid miss use.
• A.C. temperature should be maintain for 22-25 ºC
Keep Your Filter Clean regularly. That will reduce electrical
consumption 5 -15 %

• The world environment day
was established by United
Nations General Assembly in
1972, to mark the opening of
the Stockholm conference on
Human Environment.
• It is celebrated world wide on
5th June every year to raise
awareness on environment &
mobilize action for
C……I am getting
environment protection and into ashes...Pay

Natural Resource - Any natural material that
is used by humans or
Resources that the Earth provides for you
EX: Water, Petroleum, Minerals, Forests
• A Natural Resource that can be replaced at
the same rate at which the resource is used.
• EX: Trees,Wind, Water
• Although many resources are renewable,
they still can be used up before they can be
renewed.
• Alternative energy – using energy from
renewable resources such as wind/sun
– Wind turbines can produce electric power
– Solar power can produce electric power
– Hybrid engines in cars and trucks use much less gas
A resource that forms at a rate that is much slower
than the rate at which it is consumed.
A fossil fuel is a nonrenewable energy resource
formed from the remains of plants & animals that
lived long ago.
EX: Coal, Petroleum (Oil), Natural Gas
Once they’re gone, they’re gone!!
• To conserve natural resources, you should try to
use them only when necessary.
• 3 R’s
– Reduce
– Reuse
– Recycle
• Exhausted – lose fertility because crops planted year
after year.
• Polluted – mining, chemical spills, HUMANS
• Erosion – wind, water
• Desertification – once wet area, undergoes drought
conditions OR grazing animals OR cutting trees

• Soil conservation is the management of soil to
prevent pollution.
– Food waste ( generate
– Crop Rotation
– Conservation Plowing
– Windbreaks
– Leaving soil fallow
• Point-Source Pollution- pollution that comes
from one specific site. EX: leak from a sewer
pipe
• Nonpoint-source Pollution – Pollution that comes
from many sources; Reaches bodies of water as
runoff
• EX: street gutters, fertilizers, eroded soil,
drainage from mines
By using only the water needed
By recycling water
By using drip irrigation systems.
Waste water can be treated by sewage treatment
plants and septic systems
• Air Pollution - The contamination of the
atmosphere by the introduction of pollutants
from human and natural sources
PRIMARY POLLUTANTS
• Industrial emissions
• Vehicle Exhaust Volcanic Ash
SECONDARY
POLLUTANTS
• The formation of smog
• Industrial & Indoor
Air Pollution
• Acid Precipitation
• The Ozone Hole
• By legislation, such as the Clean Air Act
• By Technology such as scrubbers
- devices used to remove pollutants before they
are released by smokestacks
• By changes in Lifestyle
