Measures of Relative Position Grouped 1

The document discusses measures of central tendency and relative position for grouped data, including quartiles, deciles, and percentiles. It provides formulas to calculate these measures and includes an example calculating the 25th percentile using a data set of student quiz scores grouped into classes. The 25th percentile is calculated to be 14, meaning 25% of students scored at or below 14.

 = + C ()

 = 9.5 + 5 ()

 = 14

This means that 25% of the students got scores equal or

below 14; or 75% of the students got scores equal or above
14.

Let’s try this!
According to the Department of Food and Nutrition, the recommended daily
allowance (RDA) of calcium for adults is 800mg. A nutritionist thinks that people
with income below the poverty line averages less than the RDA of 800mg. Calcium
intakes are determined for a sample of 40 workers with income below the poverty
line. The data obtained is presented in the frequency distribution.
