Good Morning Good Morning: Hello

The document discusses union and intersection of events using Venn diagrams. It provides examples of how to find the union and intersection of different sets of elements. The key concepts are: - Union of events A and B (written AUB) contains all elements that are in at least one of the events. - Intersection of events A and B (written AB) contains all elements that are common to both events. - Venn diagrams can be used to illustrate and differentiate between the union and intersection of events. - Students are expected to learn how to apply these concepts to daily life situations after this lesson.

Hello

GOOD MORNING
Grade 10
Activating prior knowledge!

Union Intersection Null set

Or empty set
At the end of the lesson, the students are
expected to:

 Illustrate union and intersection of

events.
 Use the Venn diagram to
differentiate the concept of union
and intersection of events.
 Appreciate union and intersection
of events as part of our daily lives.
Union and Intersection
of events
UNION of events
A set that contains all the elements that are in at least one
of the two events.
The union of events A and B, written AUB ( which
means A or B)
Example 1
Example 2
A= { 1, 2, 3 } B= { 2, 4, 6 }
A={ 1, 3, 5, 7 }
B={ 1, 2, 3, 4 }
AUB= { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 }

AUB= { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 }
INTERSECTION of events
A set that contains all the elements that are in both
events.
The intersection of events A and B, written AB ( which
means A and B)
Example Example 2
A= { 1, 2, 3 } B= { 2, 4, 6 }
A= { 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 }
B= { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 }
A B= {2}
A ∩ B= { 1, 3, 5 }
UNION and INTERSECTION of events using
