TRIANGLE
o A triangle is a simple closed figure made up of three
line segments.
o It has three sides ,three angles and three vertices.

TYPES OF TRIANGLES ON
THE BASIS OF SIDE
o EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE - Triangle having all the sides of
equal length is called EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE
o ISOSCELES TRIANGLE – Triangle having two sides of
equal length is called ISOSCELES TRIANGLE .
o SCALENE TRIANGLE – Triangle having all the sides of
unequal length is called SCALENE TRIANGLE .
TYPES OF TRIANGLES ON
THE BASIS OF ANGLES
o ACUTE-ANGLED TRIANGLE - The triangle having all three
angles of acute angle it is called ACUTE-ANGLED TRIANGLE.
o RIGHT-ANGLED TRIANGLE – The triangle having one angle of
right angle it is called RIGHT-ANGLED TRIANGLE.
o OBTUSE-ANGLED TRIANGLE – The triangle having one angle of
obtuse angle it is called OBTUSE-ANGLED TRIANGLE.
MEDIANS OF A TRIANGLE
o The line segment joining a vertex of a triangle to the
midpoint of the opposite side is called a median of a
triangle.
CENTROID OF A TRIANGLE
o The point where all three medians of triangle meet is
called centroid of a triangle.
ALTITUDES OF A TRIANGLE
o The Perpendicular line segment from a vertex of a triangle to
the opposite side is called altitude the triangle.
ORTHOCENTRE OF A TRIANGLE
o The point where the all three altitudes of triangle meet is
called orthocentre of triangle.
PROPERTIES OF A TRIANGLE
EXTERIOR ANGLES OF TRIANGLE
o An exterior angle + adjacent interior = 180
o An exterior angle of a triangle is equal to
sum of its two interior opposite angles.
ANGLE SUM PROPERTY OF TRIANGLE
o The sum of the measure of the three angles of a triangle is 180° .
TRIANGLE INEQUALITY PROPERTY
o The sum of the lengths of two sides of a triangle is greater than the
length of the third side.
PROPERTIES OF EQUILATERAL
AND ISOSCELES TRIANGLES
IN AN EQUILATERAL TRIANGLE
o All the sides are of same length.
o All the three angles are of same measure.
IN AN ISOSCELES TRIANGLE
o Two sides have the same length.
o Angles opposite to the equal sides are of equal measures.
PYTHAGORAS THEOREM
o The side opposite to the right angle is called hypotenuse. The other
sides are called the legs.
o In a right angled triangle the square of the length of the hypotenuse
is equal to the sum of the squares of lengths of the two legs.
o Hypotenuse² = base² + perpendicular² or A² + B² = C²
