What is a printer?

* The printer is an output device that


produces text and graphics on paper.
Invention:
* The first computer printer designed by
Charles Babbage for his difference engine
in the 1837.

* The first high-speed printer was


developed by Remigton-Rand in 1953.
Types:
Impact Printers:
* These printers have a mechanism that touches
the paper to create an image.
* These printers are typically loud compare
to others.
EXAMPLE:
• Daisy wheel(1970)
• Dot-matrix(1957)
Non-Impact Printers:
* These printers create an image on the
print medium without the use of force.
* They don’t touch the paper while creating
an image.

EXAMPLE:
• Inkjet printers(1976)
• Thermal printers(1965)
• Laser printers(1969)
Working Image:
Advantage:

• Cost savings and simplified budgets.


• Greater Accessibility.

Disadvantage:
• Expensive replacement ink catridges.
• Printers cannot retain data so,everytime
we want to send a data repeatedly.
