the machine that you cannot see, but
it allows you to use the computer just
like how a mouse, monitor, hard drive

1. System Software
A system software helps the user and the hardware to
function and communicate with each other. This software
aids you to communicate with the computer without knowing
how to speak the computer's language. It is not possible for
the user to use any computer or mobile device without having
an operating system software.
When you turn on the computer, the system software gets
initialized and gets loaded within the memory of the system.
The system software runs within the background and isn't
employed by the end-users. this can be the rationale why
system software is additionally called ‘low-level software’.

A. Operating System:
It is the most familiar example of System Software. It is a group of
software that handles resources and provides common services for the
other applications that run over them. Every device requires an
operating system to provide the basic functionality to it. As an OS
basically determines how a user interacts with the system, therefore
many users choose to use one specific OS for their device. Hardware
specification must be considered before choosing an operating system.
For desktop computers, laptops and tablets:

 Mac (for Apple devices)

B. Device Drivers:
They operate and control devices and peripherals connected into a
computer. Drivers are important because they allow the devices to
perform their designated tasks. They translate the commands of an
Operating System for the Hardware or devices, assigning duties. Some
examples of device drivers are:

 Mouse Driver
 Network Card

C. Firmware:
Firmware is the permanent software that is embedded into a read-only
memory. It is a set of instructions permanently stored on a hardware
device. It provides essential information regarding how the device
interacts with other hardware.

D. Programming Language Translators:
These are mediator programs on which software programs rely to
translate high-level language code to simpler machine-level code. The
translators do not only simplify the code but also assign data storage,
list source code and program information, give diagnostic reports and
address device failures while working.
Examples are:
 Eclipse – a Java language editor
 Coda – programming language editor for Mac
 Notepad++ – an open-source editor for windows
 Sublime Text – a cross-platform code editor for Mac, Windows, and Linux

There are many application software that can be used to
perform different tasks. The amount of such apps keeps
increasing with technological advances and therefore the
evolving needs of the users.

They are also known as Closed-source software. These types of
