TRANSGENDER IN
PAKISTAN
Transgender is a person whose gender identity differs from the sex the
person had or was identified as having at birth. Transgender is a person who
does not have a defined sexuality. It may be psychologically confused sexual
person/ it does not belong only to physiology.
In Pakistan, they are called Khawaja Sira. They are officially recognized as
third gender in the subcontinent, being considered neither completely male
or female.
IN FAVOUR OF
TRANSGENDER
• Transgenders are the most unfortunate community in
Pakistan since childhood.
• They are thrown away from their homes and their parents
sent them to so-called Hejirra community.
• In Pakistan, the main occupation of transgenders is
dancing, and they are called on special occasions like
weddings and childbirth.
• According to the survey in 2019, there are more than
300,000 transgenders registered in Pakistan.
• They lack education, have poor health and medical
facilities as their parents thrown away them since birth
and are forced to be adopted by Guru community.
• They are exploited by Guru against their will and are also
exploited by their so-called partners.
• Almost, 74 transgenders are killed in KPK over six years.
• They are not accepted by society and they are mocked.
SOME CONCERNS
• Transgender have chosen beggary over hard work despite
that they are physically strong and healthy.
• They themselves do exploitation of their partners as they
are also exploited.
• They are also involved in the usage of drugs and alcohol.
• Due to the inappropriate lifestyle, there are large number
of AIDs victims among them.
CLOSURE
• If they are accepted by their parents and society; they can have better education
and health.
• Now, many transgenders are educated and are in the fields of medical, IT and
media.
• Community based organisations all over Pakistan have arranged a protest against
the murders and violence faced by transgender people.
• We demand justice for victims and survivors and security for the transgender
community from the government of Pakistan.
• We call for the development of provincial policies and legislation to criminalise
offences such as violence and murder of transgender people.
• We should accept transgender and should give them equal employment
opportunities, health care and rights so they could have better life and better
future for next generation.
