Types of Houses Explained

There are several main types of houses: - A single-family detached home is a freestanding structure without shared walls. - A townhouse shares one or two walls and was designed for high-density urban areas. - A multi-family home is a single building divided into multiple separate dwellings like a duplex or apartment building up to 4 units. - Other house styles include bungalows, which are typically small single-story homes with dormers, ranch homes which are single-story with a long roofline and open floor plan, and condominiums where an individual unit is privately owned within a larger community that shares common areas.

TYPES OF HOUSES

Types of house:
What Is A Single-
Family Home?
A single-family detached home is a freestanding
structure that doesn’t share walls with another
dwelling.
What is a townhouse?
Technically, a townhouse could be any city dwelling, but
the name usually applies to a style of multi-floor home that
shares one or two walls with adjacent properties. Each has its
own entrance and often a small front lawn and backyard as
well. As the name suggests, townhouses are designed for
high-density, urban environments, with a tall and narrow
silhouette.
They originated in London and Paris in the 1600s, and
emigrated to the burgeoning colonial cities of North America
— Boston, Philadelphia and New York — in the next century.
Around the turn of the 20th century, in New York City, they
evolved into a more utilitarian form — the rowhouse, built in
sets of four, six or eight, identical except for occasional
details.
,,A house is made of bricks and
beams.
A home is made of hopes and
dreams”
What is a multi-
family home?
A multi-family home is a single building that’s divided
to accommodate more than one family living separately.
They can range from a duplex, which has two dwellings
within a single building, to homes or small apartment
buildings with up to four individual units. (Buildings with
more than four units are typically considered commercial
properties.)
What is a bungalow
house?
A bungalow is a style of house or cottage that is
typically either a single story or has a second,
half, or partial story, that is built into a sloped
roof. Bungalows are typically small in terms of
size and square footage and often are
distinguished by the presence of dormer windows
and verandas.
What is a ranch house?
Traditional ranch style homes are single-story houses commonly built
with an open-concept layout and a devoted patio space. Ranch home
designs often feature long, low-pitch rooflines and large windows along
the front of the house. The shape of a ranch style house can vary. Most are
rectangular, but they can also be built in a “U” or “L” shape. Other
common features of ranch style homes include sliding glass doors that
open onto the patio or backyard, wide roof eaves, and an attached garage.
It’s important to note that while most ranch style homes don’t feature a
second floor, many do have finished basements. Serving as an additional
floor, the basement increases the overall space available in the home and
works great as an area for a home theater, a home gym, or additional
bedrooms.
What is a
condominium?
A condominium, often shortened to simply
“condo,” is a privately owned individual unit
within a community of other units. In general,
the owner usually owns the interior of their
condo and the structural components of exterior
walls. Condo owners jointly own shared
common areas within the community, such as
pools, garages, elevators and outside hallways
and gyms, to name a few. While some condos
are found in high-rise buildings, detached
condos can be found in some markets.
