Mean Deviation
Dr. Preeti Jain
Mean Deviation (MD)
Definition
MD is arithmetic average of deviations of all the
values taken from a statistical average (Mean,
Median oar Mode) of the series.
In taking deviations of values the ± signs are
ignored.
That means, negative deviations are also
treated as positive deviations.
Mean deviation may be based on mean,
median or mode. That is deviations are
taken either from mean or median or
made.
