Transaction Processing Systems

A transaction processing system (TPS) collects, stores, modifies, and retrieves business transaction data. Examples include sales order entry, hotel reservations, payroll, employee records, and shipping systems. TPS systems are important because they keep business databases stable, reduce the risk of losing user information if terminals or networks fail, and can recover from operating system failures while accounting for what stage transactions were in when failures occurred.
