BACKUP AND RESTORE

Backup facilities, as provided by the OS, enable all information to be copied, so

that the event of a major problem the information can be easily restored.

There are 3 main areas to consider when designing a backup strategy:

1. Which information should be backed up

2. What technology should be used for the backups

3. When and how often should backups occur

• Backup overview

Evaluating this is the process of developing a backup strategy following points

should be considered:

1. Ensure recovery from major losses

2. Check backups periodically

3. Keep old backups

4. Check file systems before backing up

5. Ensure files are not in use during backup

6. Backup the system before implementing any major changes
