Types of Graph

The document discusses different types of graphs used to represent organized data, including pie charts, bar graphs, and line graphs. It provides examples of how to construct each graph type using sample data, explaining the key steps like determining percentages or frequencies, calculating degrees or bar heights, and plotting the graph accurately. The purpose of graphs is to visually illustrate relationships within quantitative data.

Pie Chart
PIE CHART
A pie graph is a circle that is divided into sectors according to the
percentage of frequencies in each class of the distribution.
The pie graph is most appropriate to use if we want to show the
relationships of the parts to the whole.
Example: The following are the data pertaining to the budget
allocation of the Reyes Family for the month of
Class Frequency June.
Expenses Amount
How much is the budget of Reyes
Transportation Php 2,000
Family?
Food Php 8,000
What expenses gets the highest
Electricity Php 2,000
Water Php 500

Electricity Php 2,000 14.29%
Water Php 500 3.57%
Recreation Php 1,500 10.71%
n= 14,000 100%

Step1: Get the sum of the frequencies. Step2: Convert the frequencies to percent using the
formula
2000 + 8000 + 2000 + 500 + 1500 =? %

Bar Graph
A bar graph presents data A bar graph can be a simple bar graph (where the
using vertical or horizontal bars bars represent only one unit) or a multiple bar
to represent the frequencies of graph (where there are group of bars used on
the classes the same diagram to use for comparison).
How to construct a bar graph?

3. Bars should be proportional to the
quantities they represent. Their widths
must also be equal.

Analyze the given data and identify the
appropriate graph to be used. Write B for bar
graph, C for pie chart and M for multiple bar
graph.
1. breakdown of your daily allowance
2. record of baby’s height in his monthly checkup
3. denomination of bills and coins in a deposit slip
4. proportion of the layers of the Earth (crust,
mantle, core and inner core)
5. record of your grades in Math, Science and
English from 1st to 4th quarter
PERFORMANCE TASK:
Ask the help of your parents/
guardians to identify your
household’s monthly income and
your monthly expenses. Make a PIE
CHART representing the information
you have gathered. Write a
reflection of your answer. Show
your solution.

analyzing and identifying problems to provide improvements.
Ogive
Ogive is the cumulative frequency curve wherein cumulative percent are added from left to right of
the graph. This is very similar to histogram, but points are being used instead of bars. It is a
cumulative line graph. The more the graph rises means the greater increase and the more it drops,
the lesser increase. Ogive is not about comparison of values but an accumulation whether the total
values is growing or dropping. This is why ogive has two types: more than and less than.
