A keyboard is an input device used to enter text and commands into a computer. It contains individual keys for letters, numbers, and special characters. A keyboard has several internal parts including keycaps, switches, a case, gaskets, a printed circuit board, and stabilizers. Keycaps are the visible keys that activate underlying switches which transfer keystrokes to the printed circuit board. The outer part of the keyboard is made of plastic while the internal parts include plastic, rubber, and a steel or aluminum circuit board.

What is keyboard?
• A computer keyboard is an input device
used to enter characters and functions
into the computer system by pressing
buttons, or keys. It is the primary device
used to enter text. A keyboard typically
contains keys for individual letters,
numbers and special characters, as well
as keys for specific functions.
Parts of a Keyboard:

Holds everything together and protects
internal components. It can be made up of

a top case that sits below the switches, or
only have a bottom case.

Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and sends them to a computer. Some have
diodes for RGB backlighting

What is a keyboard made of?

• The outer part of the keyboard is made up of the


plastic that we press, while the internal part of the
keyboard is made up of plastic and rubber which
makes it elastic when we press it the key comes back
to its position. Under the internal part of the
keyboard, there is a circuit that is made up of steel or
aluminium.
