WHAT IS MOTHER
TONGUE?
Means one’s native language, the
language learned by children and passed
from one generation to the next. It is the
language that you most commonly speak
or a language that the child has used from
birth and important and impacting times in
the child’s life.
WHY MOTHER-TONGUE IS IMPORTANT?
Research shows that education in the mother
tongue is a key factor for inclusion and quality
learning, and it also improves learning outcomes
and academic performance. This is crucial,
especially in primary school to avoid knowledge
gaps and increase the speed of learning and
comprehension. (UNESCO)
WHAT IS PEDAGOGY?

Peda-means child
Gogy-means art and science of teaching
Thus, pedagogy is the art and science of teaching children. Pedagogy most
common understood as the approach of teaching, in the theory and practice of
learning. It is often described the act of teaching.
The pedagogy adopted by teachers shapes their actions, judgement, and teaching
strategies by taking into considerations theories of learning understanding of
students and their needs, and the background and interests of individual students.
WHAT IS COMPETENCY?
Competency is the capability to apply or use the set of
related knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully
perform critical work function or task in a defined work setting.
Competencies are combinations of attitudes, skills ang
knowledge that students develop and apply for successful
learning, living and working.
PEDAGOGICAL
COMPETENCIES
Pedagogic competence is the ability to manage
student learning which includes understanding of
students, designing and implementing learning,
evaluating learning outcomes, and developing
students to actualize their various potentials.
Pedagogic competence is an important that must
be mastered by a teacher.
THE FOUR PEDAGOGICAL
COMPETENCIES
1. PURPOSE
Philosophy, attitude and style that a person brings to the task
Of teaching.
2. CONTENT
Static content (what) is the curriculum that teachers are responsible for
teaching. It is static because it does not change from day to day with the
mood of the students or events in the school environment.
Dynamic content (how) is the knowledge and skills about teaching that
a teacher uses to do teaching. This can change at any time based on what
is happening in the immediate environment . A teacher must know how to
monitor and adjust throughout the day as well as know the procedure for
presenting a lesson.
