Design of Components

The document provides specifications and design calculations for a gear pump system. Key points: 1) The gear design uses involute tooth profiles with 200 full depth teeth for strength. Specifications include a gear width of 36mm and 12 teeth. 2) Calculations determine geometric parameters like pitch diameter of 26.25mm and pressure angle of 0.26667 radians. 3) Stress analysis using the Lewis equation shows a bending load of 55.078N can be supported by the chosen 0.4% carbon steel material.

DESIGN OF COMPONENTS

GEAR DESIGN

• Geometrical design
TOOTH PROFILE

• Involute tooth profile – constant pressure angle, resulting smooth motion and
less wear. Better than cycloidal for our project.
• 200 full depth involute system - a stronger tooth, because the tooth is wider
at the base.
SPECIFICATIONS

• Length of inlet hose, Li = 2.5m • Engine oil density, ρ = 872.5 kg/m3

• Length of outlet hose, Lo = 1m • Volume flow rate per revolution, Q
• Hose diameter, dh = 30mm = 30 Lt/min

• Geometric height, hg = 2m • Reservoir (intake side tank)

pressure, p2 = 1 bar
• Width of the gear teeth, b = 36mm
• Discharge (exit side tank) pressure,
• Number of gear tooth, z = 12 p1 = 2 bar
GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS

• Q= b×N=×N • d = = 4.6875mm
