The document discusses non-consumable electrode arc welding methods including tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding and plasma arc welding (PAW). TIG welding uses a tungsten electrode and inert gas shielding to produce high quality welds. PAW uses a highly concentrated plasma arc and is suitable for precision welding of materials like stainless steel and aluminum.

Non Consumable Electrode

Method

• The non-consumable electrode method is a type of arc welding where a non

consumable electrode ( typically tungsten) is used to produce the weld.
• The non-consumable electrode method relies on an electric arc between the
electrode and the workpiece to generate heat, melting the base metal ad
filler material (if used) to form the weld.
• A shielding gas, typically argon, is used to protect the weld pool from
atmospheric contamination.
Types of Non-Consumable Electrode
Method

1.Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG)

Welding
2.Plasma Arc Welding (PAW)
Tungsten Inert Gas Welding(TIGW)
TIG welding is an arc welding process that utilizes a non-
consumable tungsten electrode to create the weld. The weld area
is protected from atmospheric contamination by an inert gas,
typically argon.
TIG welding offers precise control over the welding process,
making it suitable for welding thin materials and intricate joints.
It produces high-quality welds with minimal spatter and
distortion
Uses of TIG Welding

TIG welding is commonly used in

industries such as aerospace, automotive,
and precision fabrication, where quality
and precision are paramount
Plasma Arc Welding (PAW)

Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) is an advanced arc welding

process that utilizes a highly concentrated plasma arc to
create welds.
The plasma torch generates a high-temperature plasma
arc by passing an electric current through a constricted
nozzle. This arc melts the workpiece and filler material
(if used) to form the weld.
Uses of Plasma Arc Welding
(PAW)

• PAW is used in various industries for welding

materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, and
titanium. It's particularly suitable for precision
welding in aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing
sectors.
• It's also versatile and can be used for a wide range of
material thicknesses.
Applications of Arc Welding
• Arc welding is used extensively in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other
infrastructure projects.
• Arc welding is a fundamental process in automotive manufacturing for assembling
vehicle frames, chassis, and body panels.
• Arc welding is crucial in shipbuilding for joining steel plates, structural members, and
piping systems.
• Arc welding plays a vital role in the aerospace sector for manufacturing aircraft
components and assemblies.
• Arc welding is used for repair and maintenance tasks in various industries to restore
damaged or worn-out metal parts.
• Arc welding is utilized in the fabrication and maintenance of pipelines, offshore
platforms, and processing facilities.
