Student will be able to identify and say common parts of the body: head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes,
ears, mouth, nose

Materials 1. Flashcards with pictures of body parts


2. Make a Face template

The Monster Family story

Pre-class Tasks for Student (Offline preparation Student will listen to the “Head Shoulders Knees and
Toes” song and make a drawing of herself on an A4
paper.

1 Student and teacher sing the Hello song together. S&T 5 min
Student and teacher say together the opening
chant Wiggle Your Fingers, Stomp Your Feet!
Student will answer the question “How are you S>T
today?”

2 Teacher asks the student to listen to and try to T>S 7 min


solve the following riddle: S>T
I am a body part
But I am not a knee
I am found on your face
I’m what you use to see.

Teacher asks: “What other things can you name on
your face?” Student shows and tells what she can S>T
name ex. Nose, mouth.
Sing together the Head Should Knees and Toes
song using actions.
Teacher asks: “What do you think we will learn T>S
about today?” We will learn about our body parts.
Student shows the picture of her body, points and S > T
says the name of the main body parts. Encourage
student to use full sentences. Eg. ”This is my
head.”
Teacher asks student to count how many fingers
and toes she has (this is revision of counting to
10).
3 Teacher shows the front cover of The Monster T>S 12 min
Family story and asks student to make a
prediction what the story might be about (review S>T
family members). T>S
Teacher asks student to listen to the read aloud.
As teacher reads aloud pause before reading the S>T
body part and encourage the student to figure out
the body part based on the picture.
Ex. Teacher reads: “I have a big..” Student looks
at the picture and guesses: “head”.
4 Teacher calls out the family member from the story, T>S 6 min
student names and shows the body part that was big. S>T

Stick the body parts flash cards randomly to the wall


or board. Randomly touch each card ask the student
to touch that part of her body and say a complete
sentence “I have one head”. “I have two shoulders”. S>T

Teacher observes student’s pronunciation and if she


struggles to name any specific body part. T

5 Make a Face template. Student to cut and glue the S>T 8 min
body parts onto the face. Present and speak about her
work.
6 The final step is revision and summary. Student says S>T 5 min
with her own words what she has learned in this
lesson. Use the activity as a formative assessment.

Homework: student will record a short video or
voicethread describing the body parts on the Make a
Face sheet she just finished.
