Tools and Strategies

In today's world, the use of technology in communication is a
luxury no more; in fact, it has already turned into a necessity. It
has become difficult for us to connect and share information with
one another without technologies that continually change at a fast
pace. The emergence of new technologies has changed our
strategies of communication in the academic and business settings
among others. Thus, instead of rejecting these technologies, we
are driven to embrace them as they impact incredibly on various
aspects of our communication.
Along with the advancement in technology are the
changes in communication tools and strategies.
Among them are
1. Through the Internet, voluminous information and
resources are accessed anytime and anywhere.
2. People in various fields are now engaged in co-
construction of knowledge.
3. Exchange of information has become instant on
available and easy-to-use social platforms, online forums
and web pages.
4. Collaborative interaction is carried out fast and easy through
mobile technology and application software.
5. Language barriers are reduced through translation of text and
voice conversations in real-time in a number of languages.
6. Finally, production and processing of multimodal texts for a
variety of purposes and settings are facilitated by a number of
high performing gadgets.
Furthermore, communication becomes most effective
when we understand not only the benefits but as well as
some potential downsides the use of technology brings
about such as distraction, misunderstanding, and less
personal interaction.
Communication Technology In
Education
The use of technology in education is a major challenge
for teachers and students in the 21st century. In the past,
education was focused on textbooks and teacher-to-
learner transmission, but now there is a shift towards
technology-driven design. The Covid-19 crisis has also
highlighted the importance of internet-based education.
Here is a rundown of some technology that
are used to facilitate learning and teaching.

Cloud computing
 allows educational institutions to create virtual
classrooms, allowing students, teachers, and
administrators to work on the same platform.
Mobile learning
 also known as mLearning, allows students to study
online or through a network while using personal
devices.
CMOOCs, or Massive Open Online Courses
 are free web-based distance learning programs that
offer unlimited participation and academic credits.

Games And Gamification
 also known as "Game-Based learning," integrate
digital and online games into the curriculum for
effective real-world experiences
LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LMS) Watson
and Watson (2007), in an article by Kurt (2018)
 manage the entire learning process, including distribution,
management, and tracking of educational materials.
LMSs like Open edX, Canvas, Moodle, Schoology, and
Google Classroom assist with course design, assignment
submissions, file organization, and digital grade books.
Communication Technology in
business
Business have embraced technology and relied heavily on it to
boost their efficiency and productivity and to achieve their
organizational goal as well.

Technology can be used in business communication in several


beneficial ways,
1. Introducing products and services is made easy
Technology has made this business process simple and easy.
2. Conducting business research is
made simple
The importance of market research
cannot be side-lined because is it the
most effective way of learning about
business’s customer’s wants and
feedback for improvement of
products and services.
3. Business transaction have
overcome geographic boundaries
Previously communication with clients
was limited to using telephones
(landlines) and sending letters. Now
companies use various type of
technology to keep in touch with their
clients.
4. Companies can easily interact with clients
Business pages on social media such as facebook and
twitter enable companies to gain followers.

5. Business meeting have become ubiquitous


New technologies eliminate the problem on waiting
for the boss to be in the meeting to see your
presentation.
Other Methods of Communication via
Technology
During the past decades, tremendous inventions and
innovations in technology have changed the way people
convey message with one another. At present, the Internet-
based During technology has become popular and
preferred way of connecting and interacting by the society
in general. Here are other ways of communicating via
tools of technology.
Blog - a blog was a personal homepage, web log or
journal in which someone could share information
or his/her opinion on a variety of topics (Forsey,
2020) arranged in reverse chronology. A blog, a
portmanteau word derived from "web log" is a web
page that acts as a user's publicly accessible
personal journal or as a business's communications
platform.
Vlog - is "video log". After greater bandwidth made it possible for
common people to upload video online, it emerged as an extension
of blogging. In the standard vlog format, the vlogger records his or
her own voice on a computer monitor or with a handheld camera.
However, some vlogs are highly produced with intricate visuals and
recording crews.
Live Video Stream- Live video is a development of
vlogging that satisfies the demand for immediacy and
authenticity among users of internet content. In April 2011,
the YouTube video-sharing service added support for live
video. In August 2015, rival network Facebook launched
Facebook Live. The benefit of synchronization in
communication is provided via live video.
Bot - is a piece of software that has been designed
to carry out specific functions. Since bots are
automated, a human user is not required to start
them up before they can function as intended. This
is usually operate over a network; more than half
of Internet traffic is bots scanning content,
interacting with webpages, chatting with users, or
looking for attack targets.
Chat Room/Group – messaging is a defined virtual
channel for Internet communication between users,
usually limited to plain text. Images and chat room
thanks to more recent advances in Web technology.
The phrase can refer to synchronous or
asynchronous online emoticons can now be sent in
a forums, chat rooms, and instant messaging.
Discussion forum- is an electronic message board for
asynchronous communication, it also commonly referred to
web forum, message board, discussion group and bulletin
board.
Fax- the telephonic transfer of scanned printed information.
Intranet- it might be characterized as a private network
utilized by a company.
Instant Messaging- is a forum of text based communication in
which two persons participate in a single conversation over
their computer or mobile device within an internet base.
Podcast- as a digital audio file that can be downloaded to a
computer or mobile device from the internet.
SMS/MMS-

Social networking- involves social media websites that are


available on the internet to keep touch family, friends, co-
workers, customers, client. through facebook, twitter and
instagram.

Tweeting- posting short messages for anyone who follows you


on twitter.
