THE IMPACT OF STUDENTS TARDINESS ON
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCES O STUDENTS AT DATU
SAILILAH NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
Tardiness has become a habit of some students nowadays. Tardiness is when students are consistently late to class and
can have dramatic results on a student’s future education and career. Similarly, students who leave school early miss out on valuable
instructional time. Also, students who arrive late and leave early from school miss out on key learning opportunities such as morning
huddles, morning announcements, academic activities, tests and quizzes, and social interactions with peers. (Academies, Attendance
Matters: The Impact of Tardiness on Student Success, 2018).
The tardiness implies a situation where an individual is coming, occurring, or remaining after correcting, usual or
unexpected time. Thus, the term “Class Tardiness” has been defined as students not attending lecture on time, missing out initial time
from the first period and primarily not being present in the time set. A late student substitutes for a lack of accountability. Being tardy all
the time is a sign of carelessness and a waste of time. Being punctual is not only a need for students, but it is also a sign of good
manners, respect, and reputation.
Tardiness has already become a habit of some students nowadays, being tardy means coming late on school even their
house is just beside their school and it can lead to more serious problems affecting their academic learning as well as in their
performances, if a student is not on time every day the student cannot perform well in class discussions, when passing their output
after deadline is also an example of being tardy. But up to now students are still unaware of what will be the consequences to their
academic performance(Santillano2010).
Statement of The Problem
This study aimed to determine the impact of students tardiness on academic performances at students of Datu Sailila National
High School.
This study sought to answer the following questions:
1.What is the socio demographic profile.
a. Age
b. Gender
c. Grade level
2.what is the times that students going to school late.
3. What is the students travel time going to school.
4. To what extend is the level of causes of student’s tardiness.
5. To what extent is the level of impact of student’s tardiness.
Hypothesis of the Study
There is no significant difference on the impact of students tardiness on
academic performances.
Significance of the Study
The findings of this study were benefits to the following:
Students- The student would be able to go school on time. They would become more
responsible.
Teachers- They could help each other implementing plans in helping that students to
go to school early.
School administration- Will be gaining insights as to what measure are appropriate
to help the teacher orient both student and teachers regarding the tardiness of the
students.
Scope and Delimitation

academic performance at students of Datu Sailila National High School. The
respondents of this study were the grade,9,10,11 and 12 at students of Datu Sailila
National High School, S.Y 2023-2024.
Theoretical Framework
According to Zeiger (2018), Tardiness may have an impact to the success of a student in school.
Tardiness causes problems. The most crucial learning hours of a school day are the morning
hours because they are when students are most attentive. Tardy students miss the beginning of
their class in the morning and they may also cause a distraction to the ongoing class. Tardiness
may also have an effect to the academics and achievement of students. Students who ae
frequently late to class may have lower GPAs, lower scores on standardized assessments, and
lower graduation rates. Tardiness may also cause behavior problems. In the National Center for
Education Statistics 2007 Indicators of School Crime and Safety, teachers surveved reported that
students who are frequently tardy have higher rates of suspension and other disciplinary.
