Specialized
Structure of
Terrestrial
Plants
TERRESTRIA
L PLANTS

Are plants that grow on land. Terrestrial plants

specialized structure enables them to grow in an
specific environment and protects them from
being eaten by animals . For example:
Cactus have fleshy
parts that enable them
to grow without water
for a very long time, a
plant with this kind of
ability is a banana. It
also has thorns that
protects them from
getting eaten by
animals.
Rose have thorns that
protects them from
getting eaten by
animals. Another
plants that have thorn
is Makahiya and
pineapple.
Sweet potatoes are able
to grow vertically on
land, and form starchy
tuber under the soil.
Rafflesia Arnoldii is a
plant that produce a
strong smell that keeps
the animals away and
protects them grom
getting eaten.
Venus Fly Trap is a
plant with thorns and
hair like fivers on its
trap that signals the
trap to close and catch
its prey.

Plants
AQUATIC
PLANT

Are plants that grow only when submerged in or

on water. Their specialized structure also help
them survive in their habitats. Example are:
Water lily have broad
and buoyant leaves
that makes them float.
Its roots grows on soil
underneath the water.
But the leaves and
flowers grows above.
Another plat that are
like this is kang kong
plant.
Sea weeds is an
example of plant that
has the ability to grow
on soil or sand
underwater where in it
is completely
submerged. This plant
also produces oxygen
for aquatic animals.
Wild rice is a grass
that grows on swamps
where in only the
stems and the roots
grow on the soil
submerged with water,
and its leaves grows
above.
Soft hornwort is a
floating plant
completely submerge
on water. This plant
doesn’t need soil for it
to grow.
Pistia is also a floating
plant that doesn’t need
soil to grow, only the
roots are submerged
on water and the rest
floats above.
