Energy Intensity and Emission Intensity
Energy Intensity; Amount of energy required to
produce one unit of gross domestic product (GDP)
Emission Intensity; Emissions intensity is the level
of GHG emissions per unit of economic activity,
usually measured at the national level as GDP.2

Renewable Energy Programme of India
Renewable energy in India - Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Large Scale Hydroelectricity is administered separately .
India is running one of the largest renewable capacity expansion programs
globally.
More than doubling of India's large wind power capacity.
15 fold increase in solar power from April 2016 levels.
This Would place India at the centre "Sunshine Countries"
International Solar Alliance - 121 countries lying fully or partially between
Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.
These include Australia, New Zealand, France, Japan, Netherlands, UK and
USA. Australia partially falls within the Tropics. Other developed countries have
islands within the tropics.

Renewable Energy Programme of India
• In the electricity sector, renewable energy - 18.37% of the total installed
power capacity (60.98 GW) as of 31 October 2017.
• In 2002, the share of renewable grid capacity was 2% (3.9 GW).
• India has set a target of achieving 40% of its total electricity grid capacity
generation from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030, as per Intended Nationally
Determined Contributions (INDC) statement in the Paris Agreement.
• Large hydro installed capacity reached 44.41 GW as of 28 February 2017
contributing to 13.6% of the total power capacity.
• Thus, renewable energy including large scale hydro-power currently adds up
to more than 32% of the total installed power capacity in India.

Renewable Energy Programme of India
• Wind power capacity attained 32,746 MW, making India the fourth-largest
wind power producer in the world as of year end 2017.
• The government target of installing 20 GW of solar power by 2022 was
achieved four year ahead of schedule in January 2018, through both solar
parks as well as roof-top solar panels.
(source; http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=174832)
• India has set a new target of achieving 100 GW of solar power by 2022.
• Four of the top seven largest solar plants worldwide are in India including the
second largest solar park in the world at Kurnool, (AP), with a capacity of 1000
MW.
• The world's largest solar power plant, Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan has a
capacity of 2255 MW. Bhadla Solar Park is the world's largest Solar Park as of
March 2020 spread over 10,000 acres.
