Relevant CISPR 16 specifications for EMC pre-compliance

It is essential to configure the spectrum analyzer in compliance with CISPR 16 to

obtain measurement results that can be compared with test-house results:

• CISPR 16 compliant IF filters

• CISPR 16 compliant resolution bandwidth
• CISPR 16 compliant detectors
• CISPR 16 compliant sweep time
• CISPR 16 compliant frequency spacing between adjacent measurement points

Provided that the spectrum analyzer is equipped with an EMI option, a suitable test
software such as EMCview of Tekbox will take care of correct analyzer settings.

Furthermore, compliant test equipment and a correct test setup is necessary

• CISPR 16 compliant test equipment (LISN, CDN, BCI-probe)

• CISPR 16 compliant EUT and test equipment placement

The relevant standards specify the test equipment and measurement set up.

Relevant CISPR 16 specifications for EMC pre-compliance

To get measurement results that can be compared with test-house results, the
spectrum analyzer must be configured in accordance with CISPR 16:

• CISPR 16 compliant IF filters

• CISPR 16 compliant resolution bandwidth
• CISPR 16 compliant detectors
• CISPR 16 compliant sweep time
• CISPR 16 compliant frequency spacing between adjacent measurement points

If the spectrum analyzer has an EMI option, a suitable test software, such as EMCview
from Tekbox, will take care of right analyzer settings.

Furthermore, compliant test equipment and a proper test configuration are required.

• CISPR 16 compliant test equipment (LISN, CDN, BCI-probe)

• CISPR 16 compliant EUT and test equipment placement

The test equipment and measurement setup are specified in the appropriate
standards.

How to obtain EMC standards

Standards can be found in the webshops of many standardisation agencies. A single

standard can cost between $300 and $800 USD. Several standards are usually
required, therefore a few thousand USD is readily spent.

There are a few cost-cutting options:

A few national standardization institutions, such as the Estonian Centre For

Standardisation And Accreditation, provide single user standards at a fraction of the
cost. https://www.evs.ee/en/search

Various CISPR and other standards can be found on a website of the Bureau of Indian
Standards, https://law.resource.org/pub/in/bis/manifest.litd.9.html
However, the versions of the standards are somewhat old.

A few companies publish test-house reports of their products. These reports reveal
information on standard compliant measurement set ups and EMC limits.

Download EMCview from the Tekbox website. Following installation, a subdirectory

docu is created that provides information on all pre-configured test projects. The
pdfs contain the EMC limits of all CISPR standards as well as other information.
