E-MAILS

WHAT IS IT?
•Email or e-mail is short for
electronic mail.

•It enables you to send and receive


electronic messages ( text, sound,
video and graphics file) over the
internet.
AN E-MAIL ADDRESS
•To send and/or receive email you
need an email address.

•Every e-mail address is unique and


consists of two parts; a user name
and a host computer, separated by
the @ sign.
The general format of an
email address is:
username@hostname

Eg:
missbarrow@gmail.com
MAIL SERVER ( HOST
COMPUTER)
•This operates like a
traditional post office. The
mail server handles incoming
and outgoing emails.
SOME POPULAR EMAIL HOSTS ARE
MAILBOX

•This is the
area of storage
allocated for
your emails.
THE MAIL FOLDERS
• Inbox – incoming messages
• Outbox – messages not yet sent
• Sent items – messages that have
been sent (moved here from outbox)
• Deleted items – messages deleted
from any folder
• Junk- spam emails
RECEIVING & RESPONDING TO EMAIL

When you receive a message, there are several actions you can take on
that message.

• To reply to only the sender, select Reply.


• To reply to the original sender and all other recipients on the To and Cc
lines, select Reply All.
• To send the message to someone not on the To or Cc lines,
select Forward.

SENDING AN EMAIL

• To: used to enter the email address you are going to send it to.
• Cc stands for carbon copy which means that whose address
appears after the Cc: header would receive a copy of the message.
Also, the Cc header would also appear inside the header of the
received message.
• Bcc stands for blind carbon copy which is similar to that
of Cc except that the Email address of the recipients specified in
this field do not appear in the received message header and the
recipients in the To or Cc fields will not know that a copy sent to
these address.
• Subject is a description of the topic of the message and displays in
most email systems that list email messages individually
